The Charter School

Best selling author in school

The English Department along with the Learning Resources Unit arranged for best selling author, Chris Ryan to come into school on 12 May 2009.

Chris Ryan, famous for both his adult and youth titles, enthralled our year 7s last week when he came into school. For an hour he told stories about his experience as a member of the SAS as well as tips and hints for creative writing.

He delighted the audience with his tales of how he had and a colleague had set alight, Princess Diana’s hair and how during operations in the rainforest he was left two weeks later with 15 spiders coming out of his leg!. He also showed some of the equipment that was part of his uniform including night vision glasses which Matthew is holding in the picture below.

He then talked about his life after the army along with an insight into his life as an author.   There was also an opportunity for pupils to buy signed copies of his books.

The English Department and the Learning Resources unit work regularly invite authors in to school as part of the strategy to encourage our pupils to read.
