WE CELEBRATE OUR BEST EVER GCSE RESULTS
This year 56% of our pupils got at least 5 A* - C grades including English and Maths, which puts the school in the top 20% of schools nationally. At least 65% of pupils achieved at least 5 A* - C grades. For the first time ever, all pupils gained qualifications.
There were some exceptional individual performances. All of our gifted and talented cohort gained at least 8A* or A grades with 13 pupils achieving 10 or more A* or A grades. This underlines our ability as a school to cater to the needs of our most academic of pupils.
Science results were particularly good. For the first time pupils took three separate sciences. 100% of those got A* or A grades in Biology. This reflects the school’s focus on science since being awarded High Performing Specialist School Status in April when science became the school’s second specialism. Other highlights included 33% of pupils gaining A* or A grade in Statistics and 25% A* or A grade in History.
Mr Sheppard our headteacher commented……
“We could not be more delighted by these latest results. Last year we achieved a huge increase in our pass rate including English and Maths and so to continue on that trend this year is very pleasing. This achievement underlines the work put in by our pupils, their parents and carers and of course, the staff at the school. Robust tracking systems, pupil mentoring, after school and Saturday catch up classes have all contributed to this success.¿
“The school governors continue to set us challenging targets in their determination that our local community is served by an outstanding, all inclusive community school. These results underline our commitment as a school to achieve that.¿

STUDENTS AT THE CHARTER SCHOOL BUCK NATIONAL TREND
20 August 2009. Once again students at The Charter School have exceeded expectations and produced results that run counter to national predictions. 97% of pupils got the university, art or music college of their choice despite the media speculation that there would be many more disappointed A level students this year.
Students have continued to have success gaining places at Russell Group Universities to study subjects including maths, chemistry and history. Places have also been secured at leading art and music colleges.
21 of the 24 subjects offered at the school produced a 100% pass rate. Particular highlights include 100% A or B Grades in Maths, Further Maths and French. 75% A or B Grades in drama and 60% A Grade in Finance. This year group owes its success to the sustained hard work of teachers, the students and their families. The additional care with which students have been supported throughout both AS and A level has had a real impact in their final achievements.
“I am delighted that despite real concerns that far more pupils would be unsuccessful, our students have been overwhelming successful in gaining the places they wanted. This is because they have equalled or exceeded their predicted grades. Families will be particularly pleased with these results in light of the current economic climate.¿ commented David Sheppard, head teacher. “As a High Performing Specialist School with a focus on science, maths and business we are particularly delighted with our results in these areas, for example all students studying Maths achieved an A or B grade,¿ he concluded.
