Gifted and Talented
We at The Charter School believe that Gifted and Talented education seeks to improve the education of gifted and talented pupils within the school community. We aim to achieve improvement in of gifted and talented pupils and students, especially those at risk of underachieving, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Key areas are:-
· Attainment
· Aspirations
· motivation
· self-esteem
Courses for this half term have just been announced please click to the right for more information.
The top 10% of pupils are selected following the results of the CATS scores and from subject nomination from teaching staff. The aim of this is to identify provision and to ensure that differentiated teaching and learning occurs in lessons to meet the individual needs at the upper end of the ability range.
The programme involves anything from one-off courses during the school year, at weekends and in the holidays to year long courses at local universities. This year there has been two successful Study Skills days held at Millwall FC and City GATES Progression Academy which is held at West Ham Football Club to name a few.
If you have received a Young Gifted and Talented Academy booklet (this bears the official YG&T logo) and wish to be informed of courses when they arrive then please provide us with an email address and we will ensure that this information is sent to you. Alternatively, all courses will be posted on the website and if you are interested then fill in the application form and we will try our very best to ensure that your child is booked on them.
In some instances the school’s or Local Authority budget unfortunately cannot stretch to cover the cost of these programmes, but if you are interested in them you might look at funding them personally.
If you would like to find out more information about the scheme please contact Ms Susan Spence on SSpence@charter.southwark.sch.uk putting gifted & talented in the message field.
Many thanks
